- Heat cooking oil slowly. It can catch fire if heated too quickly.
- If oil begins to boil, remove it from the heat source.
- Do not overfill the pan.Overflowing oil will catch fire quickly.
- Never use water to extinguish a cooking oil fire. Cover the fire with a large lid or smother the fire with baking soda (it stops the supply of oxygen necessary for the combustion).
- Wipe up appliances after spills and regularly clean the grease that builds up on the stove, oven and exhaust fan.( oil and grease- when combined with heat and electricity-are ingredients in a combustible recipe).
- Make sure the pan is not adulterated with water.Pressure from the boiling water underneath can cause the oily layer on top to explode.
- If you are using electric stove, never spill salt on the burner.Fire comes from nowhere ( personal experience).
- And of course, make sure you are not wearing any type of loosely hanging clothes.
