- Everyone knows about the greatness of lemon,right? Here are some points to note down.
- For a healthy vascular system,try this: In the morning,after you brush your teeth,( i.e., with empty stomach) take a glass of lukewarm water,add 1 tbsp honey,3 tbsp of lemon juice-mix and drink.Do not drink or eat for at least 15 min. This juice also helps in shedding a few pounds of weight from your body.I think you should not try this if you are suffering from peptic ulcer or acidity.
- If you are too lean and trying to gain a few pounds,then take the same juice in lukewarm milk instead of water.I never tried this but this used to be an ancient ayurvedic technique.
- By frequent usage of lemon, kidney stones can be avoided.
- It also relieves from the problem of varicose veins to some extent.
- If the body odour is creating problems even though you are using deodorants, try applying lemon to the armpits.
- Whenever we had our little dinner parties on our hostel terrace, some of my friends used to rub lemon on their greasy plates and rinse with water.They never use detergent to wash (too lazy to go to their room and get the bar).This works because the molecules in the lemon has a binding property.They bind to the oil on one side and to water on the other side and the greasiness gets washed off.
- In exactly the same way, in our body, the lemon particles bind to the greasiness of our blood vessels( fat) and gets washed off.
- But remember, do not take lemon directly into the mouth.Lime water is somewhat better but not that good.Because the citric acid,ascorbic acid...all those acids are detrimental to your teeth.The enamel will become weak.Once in a blue moon....that's all right.But not often.Daily?.....NEVER

Miracles with lemon
Candle wax on carpet
Are you desperately trying to get rid of the candle wax that spilled on the carpet? Then try this tip:
First scrape out all the wax that comes out easily.Clean the surface.Then,cover that area with tissue paper and press it using the hot iron box. Keep on changing the tissue until all the wax comes out.
Breakfast with Tapioca
Pearl tapioca does not have much medicinal importance. It comes under the category of neutral food.Here is a recipe out of this.It is a good, spicy breakfast item and also as a lunch box.Only problem is, it should be soaked overnight.(oh,....lot of planning....,Grrrrrrr).Its taste might come under the grade 'average'.
Preparation time :10 min.
Ingredients:
250 grams Tapioca (soak it overnight or for 8 hrs- not too excess water)
1 or 2 medium onion (sweet, red,yellow......whatever...doesn't matter)
50 grams peanuts (coarse blending needed)
3 green chillies
seasoning:
2 tsp cumin
1 tsp mustard
1 tsp coriander powder
8 or 10 curry leaves or 1 tsp of the powder
2 tbsp oil (preferably EVOO)
to taste salt
garnishing:
coriander leaves
Recipe:
Oil in pan-add cumin, mustard-after it spatters
add onions,green chillies ( substitution with chilli powder is permitted....hahaha) fry until onions turn into golden brown colour
add curry leaves,peanuts,coriander powder,salt-saute for 2 min.
add tapioca-cook on low until excess water is gone
Garnish with coriander
I wouldn't say "Ummm,it tastes awesome,delicious ..blah,blah"But on a busy working day,for people who want to avoid outside food,this helps.

Honeyed walnuts
Most of the people must be knowing that walnuts are good for health.
Walnuts are omega-3 (polyunsaturated fat) rich food. Not the roasted ones. The roasted nuts lose their healthy properties.This unsaturated fat gets converted into saturated fat.
Walnuts are heart friendly nuts. After a full,unhealthy meal,eating a handful of walnuts protects your blood vessels from the harmful effect by maintaining their normal elasticity and flexibility. They also reduce LDL(bad cholesterol) levels but does not help much in improving HDL(good cholesterol) levels.This change is faster in females (10.6%) than in males (8.9%).
Daily intake of walnuts also protect you from developing diabetes .
So.........I tried a recipe.This is heart healthy.Also simple, quick and sticky.Be careful.
Preparation time:10 min.
Ingredients:
One and half cups sugar (substitute with jaggery if you want)
Half cup honey
9 oz (approx.250 grams) walnuts
half tsp vanilla extract ( kind of optional if you don't have it)
a pinch salt
You better keep all the ingredients near the stove.You'll not have much time to open the pantry and get the ingredients once you start making it.
First, combine sugar,honey & salt . Place them on a medium saucepan.Keep the burner in low heat.Do not stir much. After it boils,pour a few drops of the liquid in cold water.If that becomes hard like a smooth ball, its done (we are aware of this trick, right?).Remove from heat.
Add walnuts & vanilla extract.Let it cool slightly.Stir until it lightly thickens.Place this on a wax paper.You can even grease the cling wrap. Thats it.Let it cool.
Hey, I have to admit that I am not a good cook.I have started cooking from 6 months.Before that ,my cooking skills were zero. So,if you get a better idea than this ,you better do that.But honestly guys, it tasted good.

Spinach
spinach is rich in Iron (ofcourse all leafy greeny vegetables) . But if you want to improve the efficiency of it , include fiber and Vit.C rich food in your diet.
Spinach is also rich in anti-oxidants, Vit.A and folic acid.
Try to steam cook rather than boiling it if you want to retain the natural folic acid levels.
Honey as a medicine
we can use honey as a substitute to sugar as it contains lesser calories than sugar.
If you are suffering from peptic ulcer, usage of honey ameliorates the condition.
If there are cuts and bruises which are taking more time to heal than normal or if you want faster healing ,then rub honey on the wound. This works because honey prevents bacterial growth in the wound.
Honey also acts as a natural laxative.
But be careful if you have kids under 1 year of age. You should not give it on regular basis in large amounts even though they like it.
My mother used to ask us to keep honey on the tongue and slowly swallow it if we suffered from dry cough. This used to work. I think because honey forms a coating along the esophagus and acts as an antitussive (cough suppressant). If honey is not available, even drinking water also helps in relieving you from incessant dry cough but only for sometime. This trick helps when you are in important meeting where your khal,khal sound disturbs the serious ambience.
One beauty tip: if your lips are in dark colour (some have black coloured lips) rub honey on them and leave it for sometime (dont lick!!!). It helps.

Tips
Thought of posting some information even though it seems trivial.These tips are going to be random from hell to heaven.OK enough of babbling,.. here are the tips:
1. If you live in a sunny area, particularly if your place is near equator........make sure you always use the sunglasses that protect you from UV radiation if you want to avoid getting cataract in the coming 6 or 8 yrs.
Recent study showed that people who are in their late 30s living in Florida are suffering from cataracts .So cataract is no longer an 'oldies disease' .
If you want to protect your body from UV radiation, in addition to using sunscreen lotions etc., start taking more of Vita.C rich foods and drinks. You can get Vt.C enriched water bottles.
2. If all your metal household equipment like scissors, knives became rusty and giving you their ugly appearance, soak them in the water to which around 5 tbsp of vinegar is added for an hour and clean.
3. If you keep your potatoes along with ginger roots in your pantry, potatoes will have a long shelf life.
